Texas A&M had 65 student-athletes named to the Southeastern Conference’s 2017-18 winter academic honor roll, including men’s basketball senior forward Tonny Trocha-Morelos and women’s basketball junior guard Danni Williams, who helped their respective teams to Sweet 16 appearances in the NCAA basketball tournaments.

Texas A&M junior shooting guard Danni Williams is weighing options for her senior season and is accompanying Aggie junior forward Anriel Howard on a recruiting trip to Connecticut this weekend, according to the New Haven Register.

The Texas A&M women’s basketball program gave special recognition to center Khaalia Hillsman, forward Jasmine Lumpkin and point guard Lulu McKinney at Monday night’s banquet at the Hall of Champions for helping the 26-10 team reach the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2014.

Then after Howard, Khaalia Hillsman and Danni Williams finished answering questions, Hillsman leaned into the microphone and said hello to her mother back in Chicago. The trio giggled as they walked off to continue preparing for their first Sweet 16 appearance.

Chennedy Carter’s game-winning 3-pointer with 3.2 seconds left that gave the Texas A&M women’s basketball team an 80-79 victory over DePaul and propelled the Aggies into the NCAA tournament’s Sweet 16 was witnessed by only 3,162 fans. Aggie coach Gary Blair jokes that soon 10,000-15,000 will claim they were at Reed Arena on Sunday to watch the high-arching shot complete a 17-point comeback and send A&M to Spokane, Washington.

What a beginning: A&M senior center Khaalia Hillsman is headed to the Sweet 16 for the first time, as is freshman point guard Chennedy Carter. Hillsman believes this is the start of something great for Carter.

DRESS REHEARSAL: Drake ended the season with a school record 325 3-pointers after hitting 8 of 24 in Friday’s 89-76 loss to Texas A&M in the first round of the NCAA women’s basketball tournament.

Drake’s two players who attended Thursday’s press conference, junior guard Sammie Bachrodt and sophomore guard Becca Hittner, couldn’t think of a lyric from the rapper Drake to best describe their upcoming game with Texas A&M.

The Texas A&M women’s basketball team will have an NCAA tournament tipoff event from 6-7 p.m. Thursday at the green in front of The George hotel at Century Square. Coach Gary Blair, the players, Yell Leaders and Aggie Dance Team will be available for photographs and autographs as Blair will preview Friday’s 1:30 p.m. game against Drake.

The Texas A&M women’s basketball team is seeded fourth for the NCAA Women’s Division I Basketball Tournament and will play Drake at 1:30 p.m. Friday in opening-round action at Reed Arena. DePaul, seeded fifth, will play 12th-seeded Oklahoma at 11 a.m.
