John David Crow didn't understand the bedlam going on around him on Nov. 29, 1956. He dashed into the south end zone of Memorial Stadium during the first quarter of the annual rivalry game between Texas and Texas A&M. And all hell broke loose.

The advertisement in Texas A&M's student newspaper The Battalion was an eye-catcher: "Persons interested in trying out for the Twelfth Man Kickoff Team need to report to the Kyle Field Dressing Room on Monday, Feb. 21, at 5 p.m. No prior experience is required."
