For Devin Price, Texas A&M just made perfect sense.
The A&M Consolidated senior receiver committed to the Aggies on Saturday, which allows him to stay close to home both on and off the field.
Price said being in the same program as his father, A&M defensive ends coach Terry Price, was a factor, but the family feel permeates the whole program.
“It’s a great school, and Coach [Jimbo] Fisher is going to be around for a while,” Devin Price said. “They’re always big on teamwork, and it feels like home.”
The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Price is a three-star prospect according to 247Sports.com and made the 17th commitment to the Aggies’ 2020 class, adding to a strong group at receiver. The Aggies are ranked ninth in the 247Sports team rankings and have commitments from three receivers ranked in the top 200 of the 247Sports Composite national rankings, Tomball’s Demond Demas (14th), Muhsin Muhammad III (112th) out of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Fort Bend Austin’s Troy Omeire (183rd).
The timing of Price’s decision was no accident, coming just over a week before high school football practices start Aug. 5.
“It was important to get it off my chest before football season,” Price said, “so I can focus on [football] and become a better teammate to the guys and a better leader.”
Price is a key part of a talented senior core for a Consol squad that has high aspirations. He led Consol in receiving yards (799) and receiving touchdowns (14) last season and was a difficult assignment for opposing defenses in the red zone, where he made several highlight-reel plays over defenders.
He continued that strong play over the summer, helping the explosive Tigers win the Texas State 7-on-7 Division I championship on June 29. With his place at the next level now secure, Price aims to continue to refine his game and help leave some hardware in the Consol trophy case before he heads about 2.5 miles north to Kyle Field.
“I’m just ready for the season moving forward,” Price said.
NOTES — Price is the second Consol senior to commit to a Power Five school, joining Oklahoma-bound athlete Brian Darby. Senior cornerback Nate Floyd soon could join the pair as he holds offers from Missouri, Texas Tech, Arizona and Colorado among others. He visited Missouri on June 7, according to 247Sports.com. ... A&M receivers coach Dameyune Craig, Price’s future position coach, has helped develop several receivers on their way to the NFL ranks, including Sammie Coates at Auburn and DJ Chark at LSU. “He’s a great coach, and I look forward to working with him in the future,” Price said. ... Muhammad III is the son of former Carolina Panthers and Chicago Bears receiver Muhsin Muhammad II.
