Excitement for football: Robert Cessna writes that expectations for the Texas A&M football team this season are high despite the challenging schedule. The Aggies are ranked 11th in the coaches’ poll, adding to the hype.
New grads: Thirty-five Aggies were commissioned into the military Friday afternoon as part of A&M’s commencement ceremony at Reed Arena. The commission preceded the graduation of several hundred students from the colleges of architecture, dentistry, education and human development, geosciences, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, public health, science and veterinary medicine.
Improvement on 'D': A&M’s defense perked up under coordinator Mike Elko in 2018, allowing 348.4 yards per game to rank 32nd in the country, a huge improvement. He’ll get to build on that after turning down offers to leave. “This place is special,” Elko said.
Silver medal: Junior point guard Chennedy Carter led Team USA with 16 points in a 79-73 loss to Brazil in the championship game at the Pan-American Games in Lima, Peru.
