Softball team wins: The Texas A&M softball team extended its winning streak against Sam Houston State to 52 straight with a pair of one-run victories Wednesday at Davis Diamond.

Heading to Chicago: The fourth-seeded A&M women's basketball team will play top-seeded Notre Dame at 3 p.m. Saturday at Wintrust Arena in the Sweet 16 in the Chicago Regional of the NCAA tournament.

School record: The A&M 800-yard freestyle relay of Shaine Casas, Mark Theall, Clayton Bobo and Steven Richardson broke the school record. The Aggies’ time was good for 13th place on the first day of the 2019 NCAA Championships on Wednesday in Austin.

Looking ahead: A&M punter Braden Mann, who won the Ray Guy Award after his record-setting 2018 season, says his final season of eligibility will be focused on the small details of his craft, namely eliminating touchbacks on his punts and adding more hang time.

Baseball honors: A&M shortstop Braden Shewmake was named the Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award player of the week after going 12 for 20 (.600) with nine runs batted in.
