Two Texas A&M University students were killed Sunday in a three-vehicle accident on Texas 6 in Robertson County.

The accident happened just after 6 p.m. about 3 miles south of Hearne, Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Jimmy Morgan said.

Morgan said a SUV driven by Wesley Sanders, a 19-year-old from Lexington, was rear-ended by a car, causing the SUV to cross into oncoming traffic and into the path of a third vehicle.

Sanders and the passenger in his car — his sister, 22-year-old Maegan Sanders — were pronounced dead at the scene, Morgan said.

The driver of the car that rear-ended Sanders was not injured, and the driver of the third vehicle was taken to Baylor Scott & White in Temple with unknown injuries, he said.

Wesley Sanders was listed as a sophomore business major in the Texas A&M student directory; Maegan Sanders was listed as a graduate student majoring in management information systems.

The wreck was the second fatal accident in Robertson County on Sunday.

Christopher Evan, 47, of Hearne, was killed in a collision with a pickup several hours earlier north of Hearne on the U.S. 79 overpass at Texas 6.

Morgan said the pickup was headed the wrong way on the eastbound overpass ramp when it struck Evan’s vehicle around 3:40 p.m.

The driver of the pickup was stable at CHI St. Joseph hospital in Bryan with incapacitating injuries, Morgan said. The passenger in the truck had been released from the hospital Monday, he said.
