Kyle Field west side implosion

The west side of Kyle Field comes down as its was imploded to make way for a new facade and facilities as part of a $485 million renovation.

Dec. 21, 2014: The Sunday morning implosion of the west side of Kyle Field was the dramatic next step in the renovation of the stadium. The implosion, courtesy of 735 pounds of gelatin-based dynamite, sent the nine-level elevator shaft falling toward Wellborn Road while the rest of the west side crumbled. The renovated Kyle Field was completed in September 2015.

 
 

Dec. 21, 1957: Gen. James Earl Rudder, class of 1932, submitted his resignation as Texas land commissioner to Gov. Price Daniels, according to Rudder: From Leader to Legend by Thomas M. Hatfield. Rudder had accepted an appointment by the Texas A&M College Board of Directors for the vice president position for his alma mater.

Dec. 21, 2000: Rick Perry, class of 1972, was sworn in as Texas' 47th governor. He was re-elected three more times and was the state's longest-serving governor.
