Feb. 1, 1947: Col. Guy S. Meloy Jr., Corps commandant, reactivated the Ross Volunteers honor guard following its hiatus during World War II, according to Keepers of the Spirit by John A. Adams Jr.

The Ross Volunteers is a precision marching and drill group, and the honor guard for the governor of Texas. The guard is named for former A&M President and Texas Gov. Lawrence Sullivan Ross.
