May 15, 1935: Ring Dance debuted, conceived by a group of seniors who decided that a dance with the ring as the theme would be appropriate as a sendoff of the senior class.

The first Ring Dance was preceded by the Senior Banquet. It took place with an orchestra in the mess hall and ran from 8 p.m. to midnight — there was a rule on campus that dances could not be held on Sundays.
