1897 captain J. Sterns

C.W. Taylor took over as coach. He was the first paid coach in the school's history. The team returned James Sterns, Erwin Astins and Frank Perkins, but the Aggies were beat in the season opener, 10-0, by Houston High School. Things didn't get easier the next week as the team was blasted by TCU, 30-6. In the season finale, A&M got a win over Austin College, but Sterns was severely injured and was forced to drop out of school. The team finished 1-2.
