Homer Norton's Aggies went into the season filled with inexperience, but they sported a formidable backfield with Bob Goode and Preston Smith of Bryan. The team got off to a 3-0 start and went into the annual LSU game with a No. 17 ranking. The Tigers dominated A&M in Baton Rouge, 31-12. Against TCU, Smith scored what looked to be the game-tying touchdown. But the Aggies missed the extra point and lost, 13-12. Goode scored twice and the Aggies capitalized on five Baylor turnovers in a 19-13 victory. The next week, Smith and Goode scored a combined four touchdowns in a 34-0 defeat of Arkansas. John Ballentine made a 36-yard field goal to give the Aggies a 3-0 win over SMU. At 6-2, the team dropped its next game, 6-0, to Rice. The Owls limited Smith to just 16 yards on 18 carries. A&M took on Texas with a chance to tie for the conference crown. But the Longhorns' top-ranked defense limited Smith, Goode and the Aggie rushing attack in a 20-10 UT win. The Aggies finished the year 6-4, the team’s third consecutive winning season.
